What to expect from the IELTS Writing

The IELTS writing test is the most obvious difference between the academic module and the general training module.  Both module have 2 tasks given to the candidate, the obvious difference is the first task.
The general training module requires the candidate to respond to a situation that they could encounter in their daily life and write a letter accordingly.  The task could be anything from asking for information from a government office or making a request from a landlord; the candidate should use the proper format and follow instructions, especially with starting or ending the letter.  The candidate must write the letter with at least 150 words.
The academic module requires the candidate to interpret a graph, chart, diagram, table, map or a combination.  The candidates have to present the description in their own words and they need to write it in at least 150 words.
The second task of the writing exam requires the same thing from the candidates; the task is to respond to an argument, problem or point of view, with an essay containing not less than 250 words.
Candidates are given an answer sheet and 60 minutes to complete the 2 task; candidates may use the questionnaire to organize their thoughts, but must place the answers on the answer sheet.  If in case the second task was placed before the first, indicate it on the page and do the same thing on the first task.
